FOR ALL OF YOU WHO HAVE SO generously given of your time and money, here's an update on Mika's progress and how your contributions have helped give him a chance for a better life.
In the six weeks since he was hit by a car and rescued from the roadside, Mika "the miracle dog" has faced many challenges. He spent two weeks at a vet hospital in Northern Virginia, where he received surgery and a metal plate in his left hind leg. He was then transferred to a temporary foster home in Montgomery County, where he had to adjust to a new routine and new faces. He has met all these experiences with courage and a trusting spirit, showing lots of love to the people he's met along the way.
Mika's leg is healing, and he will begin treatment for heartworm next week. Even though he'd like a good workout, he accepts his slow walks and crate rest with good grace.
He has impressed his foster caregivers with his loyal and affectionate personality. And when he isn't resting in his crate, he reveals a playful side, a love for belly rubs, and a strong attachment to the couch.
So far, the "Mika fund" has received $1,400 in donations-nearly half the cost of his medical bills. This is a great
progress, and we hope to raise the rest of the money in the coming months. We're still looking for a permanent home for Mika. Please spread the word to friends, neighbors, and coworkers! Those wishing to help with Mika's remaining veterinary expenses may send a tax-deductible contribution to the Animal Welfare Society c/o Jo Shoesmith, 528 Sycamore Rd., Harpers Ferry, WV 25425. Thank you very much for helping to put Mika on the path to the future we all want for him-a long, healthy life as a beloved friend and companion.
